Musings of a Pattinson Addict

Twilight has turned me into a bobcat for Robert Pattinson, I can't help it.

I should really update more often….

Posted by robsbobcat on July 17, 2009

Well, thank god not a lot of people are out there reading this blog!  I am majorly sucking at this whole updating business.  I am going to drop the ‘I’ve been busy at work’ card, not only because it’s handy, but because it’s true.  And honestly, I started to get bored with the Remember Me stuff.  There just isn’t a whole lot going on out there in NYC.  My admittance of this does not make me less of an Rob addict.  Let’s be clear here – even when you have the good stuff everyday, eventually your drug of choice still becomes routine, it doesn’t make you need it any less.  Okay, rant over.  I guess I just need some excitement mixed into my Rob addiction.  There was the Kristen pregnancy rumors, but that is terrifying more than exciting.  Don’t do it Rob – just trust, you don’t want that baby-mama drama.  So, please Rob, let’s get to some more Twilight action (without the Robsten rumors, please), and make us old Bobcats happy.  🙂

I think your pants are just too tight, and the backstage snacking is getting to you, KStew. Trust, I understand.

FML

Posted by robsbobcat on June 19, 2009

So, all the internet is abuzz with details of tweens attacking Rob, Rob getting hit by a cab supposedly trying to escape fans, and how fans will end up tearing him apart.  Damn it people!  If you tear him up now, we get no future centerfold shots of Rob when his career starts to wane!  And I want to see those pics, people!  No, I need to see those pics!

Anyhoo, it’s been an FML day for me too, Rob, wherever you are.  Though I am not being mobbed by fans, or hit by cabs, I did leave my umbrella in the car and it’s raining like hell outside.  I park like 5 blocks away from where I work.  FML.  I also find it to be an FML day because of this pic (and others taken from this scene):

Dang it! This should be me! At least its better than watching you kiss K. Stew.

I can’t help it that I’m a jealous fangirl.  I want to be the one to make you look that happy (and give you that sex hair).

I knew there was a reason (or 13!)….

Posted by robsbobcat on June 12, 2009

A few days ago, I saw this abortion of a gossip story.  The Answer Bitch was asked who the hottest actor under 30 was, and this was her response:

You people are not going to like this. And I am so gonna love this.

You want me to talk about Robert Pattinson. You want me to wax forth about his irresistible cadaver complexion, and his Englishy English accent, and his hair, which is so vertical it can pick up radio waves from any lonely 12-year-old heart on planet Earth.

Sure, I’ll talk about him.

Here’s the truth: He is nowhere near the “hottest” twentysomething actor on the planet, at least, in the eyes of producers, directors, casting execs and me.

Outside of the bubble of tabloids—and, um, E!—Pattz has little traction with the people who count. In fact, among the power players, several other young actors are kicking Pattz’ concave buttocks…

Let’s start with worldwide bankability—the ability to sell or greenlight a movie based on name, or face recognition, or reputation. Pattinson isn’t even in the top 10.

I wasn’t going to post on this because of  how wrong this answer from the Answer Bitch was.  I am quite fond of a Mr. Robert Pattinson.  So much so, that I decided to put up a blog in his honor.  I am willing to humiliate myself by admitting that I, as someone who has never done this in my past, follow gossip and news about him like a 13 year old fan girl.  I heart him, and no other movie star has caused this 30-year old’s mind to obsess over them.  So, there must be something particularly special about him.

Well, today, I found this awesome bit of news. These are only 13 reasons that smart girls love Rob – I’m sure there are many more.  And I agree with the root of the article – that it’s even smart, typically un-fangirl type women who have a bizarrely strong pull to him.

Here’s a few of my favorite reasons:

1.)  The first reason why is obvious. Smart girls aren’t dumb when it comes to embracing tall, good looks; they just want to be sure there is something more behind what they see. In Pattinson’s case, there is.

2.)  Smart girls love talent. If a man can make them forget their troubles for awhile, or even better, enlighten them or carry them to a new place through a story or a song (both of which Mr. Pattinson can do), then he has their attention, admiration, and in some cases, a growing devotion. More than one talent? Double points. Robert Pattinson has double points.  He is an actor, but he is also a talented musician and singer/songwriter.

3.)  Humility scores big. It doesn’t take an above-average intelligence to feel all warm and fuzzy when someone who is clearly more talented or better looking than the average person does not seem to know it (or show it, if he does)–and above all, does not take it for granted that you think he is above average in anything.  Bravado doesn’t cut it with the typical smart girl.  She gets bored with it quicker than it takes the guy who is full of it to even realize he needs to get over himself. Pattinson is also not particularly sporty and gets teased by his co-stars when he gets hurt easily doing stunts. Many smart girls (at least, those who are not also student athletes) can relate to that.

4.)  Robert Pattinson reads. Newsflash! Well, it’s true. Smart girls read, and smart guys do, too. Readers share a special bond that is stronger than a lot of other things guys could do to try to attract girls.  If some guys only knew.  A lot of guys–a lot–do not read much. (A lot of girls don’t either, for that matter, but we’re talking especially right now about those who do). In interviews, Pattinson has talked about books he’s read and has observed that several of the films he’s appeared in so far happen to come from books.

5.)  He has a great sense of humor.  Pattinson makes people laugh. Watch a YouTube interview of Robert Pattinson–almost any one of them. The guy has a sense of humor that just won’t quit, and best of all, it’s self-deprecating. He’s the kind of guy smart girls want to take home to their parents because they have absolutely no doubt in their minds that they will like him.  Charm and a sense of humor go hand-in-hand.

6.)  He knows how to be a gentleman and when.  Somehow, to Americans, it goes with the charming British accent thing, but, more importantly, it shows a good upbringing. Robert Pattinson appears to have good instincts for when to be silly and when to be respectful.  The maturity to know the difference is unusual for someone his age, and smart girls, who also tend to be rather mature for their ages, appreciate that.  The British accent thing? Well, let’s just say that smart girls know that one British accent does not a gentleman make, but perhaps the nerdiest among them may also take a special pleasure in the fact that Robert speaks perfect Queen’s English and not in a more folksy, Cockney dialect (Americans are not generally aware of the social class bias that can sometimes get tied up with this distinction in England).

7.)  He listens, and he’s articulate. Watch him in a YouTube interview again. Do you see him listening to the questions carefully? Do you see him thinking about an answer rather than always blurting out the first thing that comes to mind? Do you see him try to give a fresh answer to the same question he’s been asked 1.2 million times already? Smart girls see these traits and appreciate the actor’s efforts to communicate thoughtfully, sincerely, and well. In the listening department as well, it doesn’t hurt that he knows music so well that he can recommend an eclectic list of good musicians and songwriters that smart girls might not have yet heard of and would like to know more about.

8.) He thinks. Wow–another newsflash (he walks; he talks–LOL!).  This reason, though, is also evident in his interviews. Robert appears to want to give a thoughtful response to questions asked of him most of the time. His answers themselves sound like they are from a person who thinks about subjects beyond sports scores or fast food. It makes one want to read something that Robert may have written.  It is said that he has kept journals and written screenplays. It shows. Catherine Hardwicke, Twilight director, says he has, or is, an “old soul.” Smart girls get what that means.

9.) He’s a kind and generous public person and friend. Anyone who allows fangirls to take pictures with him endlessly when he is out on his own time and not at a public function cannot be called anything but kind and generous.  Pattinson’s friendships–old and new–seem to indicate that he is a loyal and trusted friend. He is already using his newfound fame to help open up opportunities for his British friends’ careers (musicians who co-wrote songs with him that ended up on the Twilight soundtrack, for example).

10.)  He’s not perfect. Pattinson’s got a bit of an edge that keeps him from being totally perfect. He smokes (which might be one reason not to bring him home). He embraces the British habit of going out to pubs almost nightly, and he doesn’t seem to care who sees him there.  He’s himself, which smart girls love. He’s not trying to be someone he’s not to fit into someone else’s image of who he should be. It’s called being genuine, flaws and all. There’s something a little dangerous, a little unpredictable about him, too. Catherine Hardwicke, director of Twilight saw it, and it was one reason why she cast him as Edward Cullen.

11.) He’s not afraid to show his vulnerability. Pattinson is said to be quite shy. Certainly, his soft spokenness and nervous ticks in interviews (combing his fingers through his hair, among them) seems to validate this. How ‘manly’ is it, then, when someone that shy is also that comfortable with himself that he can admit he has areas in his life that are in conflict with one another, like everyone else?  Mr. Pattinson’s sensitivity will serve him well as an artist. His good-natured goofiness will serve him well in making friends.  The combination of the two will likely appeal to people in power in the entertainment industry.

12.)  He’s creative, has ideas and ambition. Pattinson will continue to surprise audiences for at least the next few years with the film roles he decides to take on outside of the Twilight saga. Right now, much of his career is dependent on those choices, and he seems like the kind of actor who will be thoughtful in making those choices, if he chooses to stay with acting at all. Those who have worked with him say he is a hard worker.

13.)  The whole Hollywood thing does not overly impress him. You get the feeling Robert Pattinson could leave all of this new found fame and glitz behind him tonight if he found a different means of expression or a line of work that interested him more.  Not being tied to chasing fame and fortune is an admirable quality that smart girls–and people of all kinds–find unusual and admirable.

Um… I guess that’s not a few – it’s all 13 reasons.  I couldn’t help it, I liked them all.

He's giggling because I texted him something really dirty. He embarrasses too easily.

When Forced to Decide…

Posted by robsbobcat on June 7, 2009

So, our town had a big anniversary parade.  My older son and I decided to march in it with some organizations we’re a part of because we really had nothing better to do with our Saturday morning.  Well, that’s a lie.  I could have stayed in bed because I was still feeling the beer that morning.  But, like the trooper that I am, I got us there on time to wait 3 hours for the damn thing to begin.  Among my peers, I was my normal, assured, work-mode self.  No sign of Twilight or Pattison anywhere in this crowd filled with political and human rights talk.  I thought I was safe until the 15 year old girl my son was buddying up with ran up to me screaming “You love Twilight, too!”.  That damn kid of mine.  My 13 year old son decided that he would read and watch Twilight as a way to get girls to talk to him.  He ratted me out.  She then squealed as I stared at her, unsure of what I should do.  Should I pretend to have no idea what she’s talking about, or should I start squealing along with her?  The stares of the people I was standing with were still focused on us.  I was uncomfortable.  The 15 year old continued, “Oh my god!  I was going to wear my Edward shirt today!  I should have!  Did you know that Edward and Bella in real life are going to get married?!”.  It was at this moment that my reputation needed to be set aside.  She had an Edward shirt and I didn’t?  I was more concerned about this jealousy over her having a shirt then whether or not my love of Edward and Twilight would discredit me on the spot.  And I just had to set the record straight on that Rob and Kristin rumor.  I just can’t believe that is true.  He could do so much better – like me for example.  So, I ignored the stares of the group, who obviously had no idea what Twilight movies and books could do to a person, and swallowed my pride.  I started to gush about all things Twilight with a 15 year old.  I think she’s made me her new BFF.

Dont make me punch you out so I can steal your Edward shirt.

Don't make me punch you out so I can steal your Edward shirt.

The World Needs Another Robert Pattinson/Twilight Blog

Posted by robsbobcat on June 4, 2009

There really isn’t enough of them out there.  We all know it’s true.  And I feel that I could contribute at least something that is probably useless, but entertaining to the blogosphere.

So, about me.  I’m totally a bobcat for rob (bobcat: a woman in her 30s who loves younger men – like a 23 Rob for example).  It almost makes me feel ashamed, almost.  I would love nothing more than to be that older woman who shows him the ways of the world.

Mmmm.... Now thats what Im talking about.

Mmmm....

I also have a desire to nominate him for What Not to Wear, and to make sure that he has better luck finding things in the second hand store he must frequent.  Or, I could just keep him unclothed at all times, which is probably the most reasonable option.

Example of a second hand store trip gone wrong.

Example of a second hand store trip gone wrong.

I keep my obsession about Twilight books, movies, and the delicious Robert Pattinson under wraps, since it’s 1) probably not healthy and 2) I work in the world of politics where image matters (though one of my staffers is an addict herself, maybe I’ll come out of the addict closet to her).  I will be posting my love these things for the world to see, and maybe some spectacular political stories that probably involve beer and politicians.  I promise to add something Rob related to all political stories to make sure that I stay true to the mission.

Now, back to my coffee.  It’s getting cold, and if I don’t get caffeine into my system I’ll end up rocking a bitch face to my staff for the rest of the day.
